- Where is The Boat House?
- The Boat House is at 8 Chequit Avenue, Shelter Island Heights, New York 11965. It sits directly over Dering Harbor on the north end of Shelter Island, between the North and South Forks of Long Island.
- When is it available?
- The home is available from July 1 through November 30, 2026. The minimum stay is two weeks (14 nights).
- How many guests can stay?
- The Boat House sleeps up to 6 guests across three bedrooms — all queen beds, all with en suite bathrooms. There is also a fully restored 1970 Airstream Land Yacht on the property as a bonus space (day bed, bistro booth, mini kitchen).
- Who designed The Boat House?
- The property was originally built as a working boathouse in the 1920s. It was restored and reimagined by designer Scott Murphy of Dirt Design after he purchased it in 2015. For this collaboration, Design Within Reach has fully furnished the home with vintage and contemporary pieces from across its evolving collection.
- How do you get to Shelter Island?
- Shelter Island is accessible only by car ferry — there are no bridges. The North Ferry runs from Greenport, NY, and its Shelter Island Heights terminal is a three-minute drive from The Boat House. The South Ferry runs from North Haven, near Sag Harbor.
- Does it have a dock?
- Yes. A private floating dock accommodates boats up to 40 feet, with water depth approximately 30 inches at low tide. Guests planning to arrive by boat should inquire with the host in advance.
- What's included?
- Sub-Zero refrigerator and professional gas range, outdoor cedar hot tub harbor-facing, outdoor infrared sauna, outdoor kitchen with six-burner gas grill, wood-burning fireplace and stove, an upright piano, a Wrensilva record console with curated vintage vinyl, Sonos sound system, bicycles, paddleboards, beach essentials, EV charger, Wi-Fi, fine linens, weekly housekeeping, and on-site parking.
- Are pets allowed?
- No pets. The home is also non-smoking, and guests are asked to remove shoes on entry.
- What is the cancellation policy?
- Strict. 100% of the total is due at the time of booking and is non-refundable after 24 hours. Refunds within that 24-hour window are subject to a 4% credit card transaction fee.
- How do I book?
