The property was originally built as a working boathouse in the 1920s. It was restored and reimagined by designer Scott Murphy of Dirt Design after he purchased it in 2015. For this collaboration, Design Within Reach has fully furnished the home with vintage and contemporary pieces from across its evolving collection.

How do you get to Shelter Island?

Shelter Island is accessible only by car ferry — there are no bridges. The North Ferry runs from Greenport, NY, and its Shelter Island Heights terminal is a three-minute drive from The Boat House. The South Ferry runs from North Haven, near Sag Harbor.

Yes. A private floating dock accommodates boats up to 40 feet, with water depth approximately 30 inches at low tide. Guests planning to arrive by boat should inquire with the host in advance.
